Denmark Pulls Buldak Instant Noodles From Shelves Due To Poisoning Risks

Denmark recalls South Korean Buldak noodles for being too spicy, may

Denmark's food safety authority has taken decisive action to protect public health by ordering the recall of Buldak instant noodles. These spicy ramen noodles, produced by South Korea's Samyang, have gained immense popularity, especially among younger consumers who often engage in viral food challenges on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. However, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration has expressed serious concerns regarding the potential risk of "acute poisoning" associated with these noodles, particularly for young children and some adults.

The recall affects three specific products: Samyang Buldak 3 x Spicy & Hot Chicken, Samyang Buldak 2 x Spicy & Hot Chicken, and Samyang Buldak Hot Chicken Stew. The agency has highlighted that the high dose of capsaicin—a compound found in chili peppers—present in these noodles is the cause for alarm. This raised the question of how such products could still be legally sold in stores, prompting further scrutiny and action from health authorities.

As the trend of challenging one another to consume these extremely spicy noodles grows, so does the potential for health hazards. The Danish food authority has warned that excessive consumption of capsaicin can lead to symptoms like burning sensations, nausea, and even high blood pressure, particularly in vulnerable populations such as children and individuals with pre-existing health conditions. The agency has urged retailers to remove these products from their shelves and encouraged consumers to discard them immediately to prevent any health risks.
