The New York Jets are currently 2-5 on the season and they are not looking like the playoff contender that many believed them to be before the season began. A big reason the team has been struggling has been due to the up-and-down play from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Granted, Rodgers has been taking a lot of hits from the offensive line crumbling, but he should know to get the ball out quickly. Something appears to be off with Rodgers, and it could be his mounting injuries. He has been dealing with ankle and knee injuries throughout the season but is now facing a hamstring injury.
Rodgers is one of the toughest quarterbacks in the league, but he is also 40 years old. At some point, all these ailments could catch up with him and force him to sit out some games. According to Statmuse, Rodgers is No. 10 in the league, having taken 17 sacks through seven games. That is a lot of shots when you are not a younger quarterback anymore.
The hits and play that Rodgers has been exhibiting have led to him throwing seven interceptions this year. That is not the kind of numbers a Super Bowl champion quarterback should be throwing. The last time that Rodgers appeared on the injury report, he was able to play the following game. However, hamstring injuries can be a bit tricky. It will be interesting to see how the Jets respond to this new ailment, and if it will keep him out of the Week 8 showdown with the New England Patriots.
The Jets being 2-5 means they cannot afford too many more losses, otherwise they will see their chances at making the playoffs dwindle even further. The AFC is stacked with competitive teams, and anything more than six losses could mean that New York will face a steep uphill battle to even land a wildcard spot. Should Rodgers' new injury sideline him for any time, the Jets will likely lean on Tyrod Taylor to take over starting duties. However, Taylor is the only other healthy quarterback on the roster. Third-string option Jordan Travis currently has an "out" designation on the depth chart.
Either way, Rodgers being hurt is a big issue considering the Jets just acquired Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders. His acquisition was to improve the pass catching game of the Jets, but losing the starting quarterback can derail all the plans the team had for Adams' reunion.
