In her remarks to Newsweek, she highlighted the importance of these acquisitions, stating, "We are always looking for opportunities to acquire property and provide more revenue for the schoolchildren of Texas."

With the agency having purchased the land on October 23, Buckingham noted that the funding for this acquisition came from the mineral industry.
