So summer is almost over and the crisp fall air is slowly but surely creeping its way into our city. Regardless of whether or not you’re excited for pumpkin spiced lattes, infinity scarves, and sweater weather, GOOTB needs you to know that getting out of your basement happens all year long. To help you stay out and about, some of my fellow GOOTB adventurers and I have compiled a list of our favourite fall activities!
“I went to Nuit Blanche for the first time last year and it changed the way I look at living in Manitoba during the fall. It was so, so cool to see so many different types of art and it was actually really inspiring. I met four of my now-bestfriends there. I absolutely recommend it as a way to meet new people and get out of your basement in the fall!”
The Park Theatre
(All year long)
“I like hanging out with my friends and seeing shows in the fall weather. It’s a great way to stay warm and have fun with some local arts and culture. The Park Theatre has so much to offer in terms of local music and crazy-cool events. On September 5th there’s a Locals Only night featuring one of my favourite Winnipeg bands, The Thrashers. On Sunday, September 13th The Room is playing. There’s also going to be a grilled cheese pop-up restaurant. Both of these events are sure to be a good time, so bring your friends down to 678 Osborne Street – and come ready to party!”
The Corn Maze
(Open from now until October)
“I went to A Maze in Corn with my family last year and it was so lovely. It’s a special family bonding experience and a cool way to experience the fall weather. I definitely recommend going with your friends or family. Wear warm clothing, though. It can get pretty chilly. Overall, it’s a blast and a fun event that’ll make you appreciate being in Manitoba for the fall!”
Hanging Out With My Friends
“I’m looking forward to spending more time with my friends out and about in Winnipeg. Getting another job should be an interesting affair as well.”
The Winnipeg If… Improv Fest
(September 29th-October 3rd)
“I’ve been going to the Improv Fest for two years. It’s a great time. I love going and I can’t wait to check it out this year. Winnipeg has amazing local improvisers. They’re both hilarious and brilliant. I would highly recommend going!”
The Hermetic Code Tour
(Wednesday evenings until October 14th)
“I went on the Hermetic code tour in July. When I was there I couldn’t help but think that it would be awesome to go to in the fall. There was something about the tour that would get you in the right mindset for Halloween! I’m definitely going to go again in September!”
In addition to these amazing events, there’s even more things you can do in the fall, like going to see Hedley at Assiniboine Park, shopping at the Sherbrook Street Festival, or discovering all that downtown Winnipeg has to offer at Manyfest.
Sure, autumn isn’t as warm as summer. But, is that an excuse to stay in your basement?
Get up, get out, and get ready to see Manitoba in a whole different light this fall.
Go on, you can do it!
