Fact: it is the summer.
Fact: when it is blisteringly hot outside, all you want is some of that sweet, sweet ice cream to cool you down.
So in anticipation of the insatiable urge for ice cream, we went all around Winnipeg in search of the best scoop in the city. You can thank us later.

Undisputedly one of, if not the greatest, gelato shops in town. Nucci’s Gelati makes their own rich, creamy and flavourful gelato that tastes homemade. Although, my parents never made their own ice cream so I actually have no idea what homemade ice cream tastes like. But, I imagine this is as close as it gets. What’s extra special about Nucci’s is that even if you order a small, you still get two flavours in the dish! We suggest trying every flavour and then try combining them for the perfect balance.

The BDI is famous for its extravagant sundaes. It’s also the perfect place for a date. Order one of the larger sundaes (some of them are downright enormous) and share it with your sweetheart! There is a nice view of the river and usually a large crowd there, so it always feels like a happening place. Better come early, though. The line up can grow pretty quickly on a hot day.

A classic that’s been around for approximately ever, Sargent Sundae has it all: everything from simple soft-serve twists to decadent banana splits. Plus, it’s only a 10-minute walk from Assiniboine park!
Location: 390 Osborne street
Right on the route to The Forks, this ice-cream joint has some seriously sweet signature specials to satisfy you this summer.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Banana Boat is closing up shop at the end of this summer, so this is your last chance to check out a Winnipeg icon.
Location: 330 Assiniboine park drive
Located right in the heart of Assiniboine Park, Park Café serves deliciously creamy frozen yogurt. After a long day in the park, there is nothing better than furiously licking a melting cone of ‘gurt.
Go lick your ‘gurt.
